Why this website, Stepout Veterans?
Veterans, including myself, often face challenges in discovering venues that are veteran-friendly (e.g., focused on the military community). While it is important to have veterans in the community, it is equally important to find mentors, friends, associates, and non-veterans. The key here is having a strong network of people on whom the veteran can rely, ask for help, or just grab a coffee. Almost every military-friendly business has formed alliances and made investments to support our country’s military community.
Social Events
Access to social events that meet the specific needs of PTSD-affected veterans is essential, and it can be challenging to locate a business (such as a resort, campground, or hiking area) that offers a welcoming environment. In addition to giving veterans a feeling of belonging, these social gatherings assist them in learning coping mechanisms and techniques for controlling their PTSD symptoms. Veterans can also find meaning and purpose in social gatherings.
Wellness
Many local community events can provide a supportive and inclusive environment for veterans with PTSD. For example, community fitness classes, like yoga or martial arts, can be a great way for veterans to connect with others while also improving their physical health. There is a large need to continue social events that help veterans connect with others to improve their mental health.
Support a Business that Supports a Veteran
We must continue to support these businesses and events to ensure that veterans with PTSD have access to the social connections they need to thrive.
